Culinary Fishing Transilvania
“Simplicity is the highest level of perfection” – Leonardo da Vinci
Beyond the forests, just two hours’ flight from Germany, in the middle of the untouched wilderness of Transylvania, we stage the authentic-culinary variant of fly fishing & adventure fishing. We celebrate the simplicity of authentic cooking on open log fires and experience regional cuisine at its highest level at Jonas & Ulrike Schäfer’s Valea Verde Resort.
In the region around Sub cetate, we roam wildly romantic fly and spin fish routes with splendid salmonid stocks such as river and rainbow trout, Char (brook trout) and grayling. We fish Pike, pikeperch, catfish, strong chub and barbel in the reservoir of Zetea.
Between and also during the active fishing sessions, we celebrate authentic outdoor cooking on open log fires accompanied by not only great wines from Romanian wine makers of the wine-growing regions amongst the loneliness and tranquility of Transylvanian forests, meadows and streams, but also selected international wine specialties. On the campfires are cuts of naturally raised Transylvanian beef, local Mangaliza pork and other fresh fish creations such as Jonas Schäfer’s truffled rainbow trouts and the legendary Transylvanian fish soup made from chub, sturgeon and carp … and of course a lot of peppers!
As contrast to the hunting and stalking the untouched wilderness of Transylvanian forests, Valea Verde owner and master chef Jonas Schäfer stages a 6-course truffle menu in the wild during the course of each fishing camp.
The unique camp “Valea Verde Resort” and its accommodation is made up of authentic, cozy apartments with en suite bath / toilet; located in the picturesque 850 year old village of Cund, in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains 30 min by car from Targu Mures airfield.
We offer basic workshops for fly fishing and beginner workshops for spin fishing.
These trips are accompanied and staged by the international “wine & food edutainer” and certified sport fisherman Roland Birr (oenologist).
For non-fishing wine and nature lovers, we offer guided “wilderness walks” through picturesque forests, meadows and valleys during the fishing sessions. Non-anglers are also welcome to take part in the fly and spin fishing basic workshops.
